Birth Doula & Massage Therapist
Lauren is a Certified Birth Doula through DONA International and a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist. Lauren has completed over 675 hours of bodywork training and has advanced training and certification in Fertility, Pregnancy, Labor and Postpartum Massage. She is also a Certified Educator of Infant Massage through IMUSA.
Lauren holds a Bachelor's of Social Work from Appalachian State University and has worked with children, families, teens, older adults, and survivors of sexual violence. As a doula, Lauren has experience with natural and water birth, as well as births requiring medical intervention, including cesareans. On a personal note, Lauren experienced a cesarean with her first child and a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) with her second child and has a passion for helping prevent unnecessary cesareans through education and support. However a birth unfolds. Lauren's intention as a doula is to provide non-judgemental care, support, and positivity to each family so they feel empowered by their birth experience.
"I have always been fascinated by the wisdom and power that our bodies possess. If we take the time to listen to our bodies we often find a reflection of our hopes and fears. Conception, pregnancy, and childbirth are an amazing testament to this knowledge and are processes that are deeply affected by these hopes and fears. Through massage we are each able to become more aware of how we hold our life story within our body and move towards balance and healing. As a doula, I provide comfort through touch and encourage listening and trust in the body throughout labor and birth. Once a baby is born, we can welcome them into this new world through loving touch and massage. As human beings, through the processes of the childbearing year, we are given the opportunity to grow and heal as we move full circle into parenthood."
